Feilong Liu
CSC PhD Student
Feilong is a molecular ecologist and Chinese Scholarship Council funded PhD student with a great interest in global sulfur cycling. His PhD project is to elucidate the organisms and novel enzymes that allow them to degrade and assimilate carbon from the climate-cooling gas DMS. Although enzymes for the degradation of DMS are known, they are missing in the genomes of many abundant marine bacteria that utilise DMS as a carbon source. In his PhD, Feilong aims to combine culture-dependent and independent molecular microbiology techniques to elucidate the key DMS-degrading enzymes in model bacteria and establish its importance in diverse environments.
