Dr. Andrew Curson

Senior Research Associate

Andy is investigating DMSP production in cyanobacteria, a hugely important and highly abundant group of organisms that make a significant contribution to marine primary production. He is using molecular microbiology to identify and characterise the genes and enzymes driving DMSP biosynthesis in cyanobacteria. This novel work will allow us to predict which cyanobacterial species produce DMSP, how much they produce, how the environment regulates production, and ultimately to estimate the cyanobacterial contribution to global DMSP production.
